Albany Lawn Tennis News

by isleofman.com 25th June 2015

Firstly – the usual reminder about entries for Albany/Equiom Junior Open – the closing date for entries is Tuesday 30 June at 6pm. It’s the older players who are slow to fill a form in or send an e-mail to the Referee, Ian Watson.

The Mini Reds (under 8s) are very good to enter early and are really keen to compete. Therefore a plea to the older juniors – please complete a form and put it in the white post box in club room or e-mail your entry to ianwatsonpts@manx.net  or enter online. I’m still looking for a few mums/dads or members who can help with Finals Day tea as I shall be away for Finals Day unfortunately. Contact me on albanytennispr@manx.net

Have you not played tennis for quite a while or are you a beginner? Perhaps you are a parent and want to learn to play with your child. Well the answer is at Albany on Tuesdays from 6- 7pm when Club Coach Ian Watson will be holding a 6 week course – total cost ?30 and you have the option to stay on after the session and join in with club night. You need to wear tennis trainers and appropriate clothing. Rackets can be provided. To sign up e-mail ianwatsonpts@manx.net or phone him - 496293.

Congratulations to Albany member Laura Feely who won the Isle of Man Women’s Singles at Kensington Road on Sunday, defeating Karen Faragher who has won the title 17 times, 6/2 6/4.

Also some news on Billy Harris who is based in Derby. Following a shoulder op earlier in the year he is now back playing on the British Tour, reaching two semi-finals. In one semi he played Dan Evans, British No 24 and took a set off him – the score was 6/4 4/6 6/4 to Dan. Billy will be off to Jersey with the Island tennis team and then playing some Futures events in Belgium. Quite a sporty family the Harris clan – brother Tom is 2015 IOM Golf Champion, sister Katie reached the semi-final of the women’s singles in the tennis championships.

Finally Good Luck to all are members who will be playing in the Inter Island Games in Jersey.
