Some of the Isle of Man’s finest up and coming musicians are preparing to rock the ramparts of Castle Rushen on Saturday 27th June in what will be one of the more unusual and unique live music locations in the annual Manx music calendar.

An eclectic mix of genres and tunes will be bouncing off the battlements as the 13th century castle gardens will play host to beat boxers, indie, alternative and ‘pop rock’ bands as well as metal core and ‘screamo’ and the more established sounds of house and dance music and acoustic singer songwriters.

Manx artists confirmed to appear include Marc Mccabe O’Kelly, whose haunting acoustic guitar blends seamlessly with the searing teen lyrics of his original scores while songstress, Azariah’s bluesy tones take inspiration from some of the great solo artists.

Groups confirmed on the line up include indie influenced Red Shift, featuring one of the Isle of Man’s leading young songwriters Adam Kelly, and special guests the Bar Toads, the blues jazz combo who are veteran performers of many of the Island’s leading music festivals.

One of the highlights on Saturday night will be established singer-songwriter Chris Gray. Chris has recently release a new album called 'Diamonds in a Tree', his style is described as a 'distinct blend of contemporary indie (think Ocean Colour Scene or The Las) and acoustic pop'.

The entire gig is being curated by music project Soundcheck. While their rising stars take the lead on the stage, other members will manage sound, lighting and special effects for the gig. There is a special treat in store on Sunday 28th June from 2pm – 6pm, as all aspiring musicians are invited to perform on the Soundcheck stage for ‘Open Mic’ sessions. From acoustic, to full on power – the open mic stage is open to all and help will be on hand to get musicians ready to perform.

“Saturday’s music line up represents a snapshot of some of the incredible Manx talent crammed into a continuous nine hour session. The Castle backdrop alone will make it one of the highlights in the Island’s annual calendar but the quality of the line-up will ensure that it is one of those occasions that live long in the memory. So grab your friends, bring a bottle and put on your festival gear – as the show will go on whatever the weather!”

Starting from 2pm with some easy listening acoustic music, arrivals before 5pm are Castle Rushen’s standard admission fee with ACE cards, Season Pass holders and Members receiving free entry (a complimentary evening wrist band will be issued to daytime visitors). Admissions after 5pm are ?5 adult and ?3 student/child, no concessions. The gig is due to finish at 11pm.

Standard Castle Rushen admission applies to the ‘Open Mic’ sessions on Sunday 28 June, which runs from 2pm – 6pm. All performers receive free entry.
