Albany Tennis Club Latest News

by isleofman.com 18th June 2015
Will all junior and mini tennis players who intend to enter the Albany Equiom Junior Open (4th – 11th July) please get their entries in as soon as possible so that the tournament committee can decide how many trophies and tennis balls are required. Also how many umpires will be needed. ALL competitors will receive an Equiom pen and Albany Equiom 2015 T shirt, so I need to know how many to order. Prizes will be – Green ball, U12, U14 and U18 a trophy plus indoor court vouchers valued at ?10 for winners and ?5 for runners-up. Red ball and orange ball event will be a trophy plus additional prize for winners and runners-up. The red ball event will be run in two sections – beginners and regular competitors. So entries please to ianwatsonpts@manx.net , on line or fill in a form and post in the white post box in the club room. Entries close at 6pm on Tuesday 1 July 2015 and all players will be informed of their first match time by e-mail. Play will begin at 10am on Saturday 4th July with Finals on Saturday 11 and the prizes will be presented Helen Woods on behalf of Equiom Solutions Limited at approximately 4pm. There will be the usual Finals Day tea and an appeal has been sent out for help with arranging this. If you or your parents can help please fill your name in on the notice board or e-mail me – albanytennispr@manx.net.  We also need someone to co-ordinate a raffle.

This is another appeal – this time to senior members and parents. In July, 11 children from Belarus will be spending a month on the island taking part in various sporting, cultural and leisure activities. The children are from the Chernobyl area and Norman Rivers , the Chairman and Co-ordinator for the Friends of Children of Chernobyl says that fewer children are coming this year as he has less families able to host a child. Albany Tennis Club always invites the visiting children to the club for tennis coaching, competition and lunch and I’m wondering if any member would be willing to host a child next year (2016) which will be the 30th anniversary of the nuclear disaster. Planning for next year’s visit is already underway and Mr Rivers is looking for extra hosts. If you think this might be a possibility please contact Norman or Joan Rivers on 625926 or e-mail normanrivers@manx.net.  A lot of the children’s time is organised with 4 or 5 helpers so it doesn’t mean spending all your time looking after them – they will be out most days.

Will members using the indoor court please make sure to fill in the slip provided with name, date and court time. This will help reconcile bookings and payments.
