Hospice shops warehouse refurbishment

by isleofman.com 10th June 2015

Hospice shops are delighted to announce the completion of the refurbishment of their Springham warehouse. This work was only possible as a result of a specific donation from The Scholl Foundation and was very much needed in order to comply with current standards of Health and Safety regulations.

In addition as Hospice is always keen to save money so part of the refurbishment was to lower ceilings and improve floor covering in order to save energy and reduce utility bills.

It is hoped that customers will also find a visit to the warehouse a more pleasurable experience. Hospice shops manager, Judith Leslie said: “We have been at this warehouse now for over six years now and knew that the place needed updating and freshening up.” “We also needed to recognise the value of the donations given to us and ensure that these items realised the maximum amount so to have them displayed properly was a key objective.” “The feedback has been tremendous – both from donors and from purchasers.” “We were delighted that this specific donation could be used in this manner.”

Have you visited the warehouse recently? It is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 11am-3pm – even during TT.

Hospice shops raise just under half a million pounds each year and are an essential and valuable income generation extension to the funds needed to run Hospice Isle of Man each year. Every item donated and sold through the shops correlates to a service within the main Hospice. Did you know one hour of care costs ?20? This could mean selling a dress or a jacket in a shop. A day shift in the In-patient unit costs ?180 – that could be a sofa or some tables and chairs. 85p from all funds raised are spent directly on patient care. Hospice is very proud to be able to make and adhere to that statement.

Judith added: “I would like to thank the Scholl Foundation for this donation and welcome everyone to come and along and see what we have on offer at the warehouse or indeed in our shops around the Island.” “We recently sold a lovely boardroom table donated from Canada Life International – which sold for just under ?900 - that sale equates to 5 days of care in our In-patient unit.”
