Pilot killed in helicopter crash

by isleofman.com 6th June 2015

A 48 year old man from Lincolnshire was killed in this morning's helicopter crash near the TT course.

Police say that the man had flown two passengers to Creg ny Baa before the crash in the Baldwin valley near the 33rd milestone on the mountain road. He was the only person on board when the helicopter crashed and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Inspector Derek Flint said: 'This sort of incident is difficult to deal with at any time, and having happened during the TT festival, alongside another serious incident elsewhere, provided a number of challenges to all involved.

'Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the pilot. He has now been taken from the scene, which will now be preserved for the arrival of the inspectors from the Air Accidents Investigations Branch who should arrive later this evening.'

The scene remains under guard and members of the public are being asked to stay away from it.
