by isleofman.com 5th June 2015

A vacancy has arisen at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Headquarters Secretariat for the position of Secretary-General/Chief Executive Officer.

The successful candidate will succeed Dr William F. Shija who passed away in October 2014.

The post is currently held by acting Secretary-General Mr Joe Omorodion.

The Secretary-General is appointed by the General Assembly of the CPA on the nomination of the executive committee to which he or she will report and is responsible for promoting all aspects of the CPA’s work and programmes.

CPA Isle of Man branch chairman Juan Watterson MHK said: ‘At this time of geopolitical change the CPA has a vital role to play – and in that role the Secretary-General is central, to bring parliaments and nations together to foster cooperation and mutual understanding and advance parliamentary democracy across the Commonwealth and beyond.

‘The late Dr William F. Shija brought great political acuity and enthusiasm to serving the people of the Commonwealth. The Isle of Man branch of the CPA looks forward to supporting his successor and continuing to contribute to the aims of the association.’

The appointment will be for a four-year contract from January 1, 2016. For more details visit www.uk-cpa.org.
