The Department of Economic Development’s Tourism Division would like to emphasise that there are still a number of accommodation options available throughout the TT fortnight for visitors affected by adverse weather conditions.
Yesterday (1ST June) poor weather conditions caused damage to some pre-erected campsites as well as damaging the private tents of some visitors. The Department is working with various organisations to ensure that there is accommodation for all visitors whose original plans have been disrupted.
Department officials would like to reiterate that there are plenty of alternative options for visitors, including homestay and local retailers providing tents and camping supplies.
David Cretney MLC, the Department’s Political Member with responsibility for Tourism and Motorsport, commented:
‘Yesterday was a brilliant example of the Isle of Man’s huge community spirit. Praise must go to the halls and individual homes that were opened up to provide shelter during the poor weather conditions. This was the Isle of Man at its best.
‘I would also like to thank the Departments of Home Affairs and Infrastructure who have been active in coordinating the situation with staff from the Tourism Division of the Department of Economic Development. We have adverse weather and emergency policies in place and we will continue to monitor the situation throughout the TT Festival.’
There are still a large number of homestay properties available on the Isle of Man across a range of locations and price options. Regency Travel has a database of available accommodation which can be found online: http://www.iomttbreaks.com/homestay
