Manx Cricket Report 01/06/2015

by isleofman.com 1st June 2015

Cronkbourne are now top of the Isle of Man Premiership. On Sunday they had a narrow two wicket win over Castletown while their main rivals Peel and St John’s lost at Crosby.

Castletown were dismissed for 104, mainly thanks to some stirring bowling from Nick Keiswetter who took 5 -15 from eight overs. Seb Aycock top scored with 20 and George Burrows made 16.

In reply Cronkbourne lost a wicket in their first over and struggled against tight bowling. Tom Burrows did most of the damage with 4 -10 from six overs and at 91 for 8 the result was in the balance. A calm Adam Killey then kept his nerve and guided the side home with an invaluable 22 not out.

At Marown Peel and St John’s came up against Danny Kniveton who was in splendid form for Crosby. He crashed an excellent 75 not out containing six boundaries as the Marown team ended on 191 for 4.

Chasing the runs, Ollie Webster and Akkie van den Berg got the Saints away to a flier. They had a fifty opening stand before wickets began to fall. Stu Morris claimed three victims and there was some fine fielding as the Saints fell to 120 all out.

Ramsey won their first game of the season when they beat Valkyres by 48 runs. The northerners made 154 with Andy Ball hitting 54 and Dom Howard 24. Hameed Sulthan took 3 -13 and Chris Nash 3 -15 to give the Douglas team a good chance of victory.

Ryan Windell led the Valkyres batting with a very good 37, but the other batsmen had major problems. Will Moffatt was in sparkling form and his return of 5 -34 swung the match Ramsey’s way. Chris Nash hit 19, but the team finished on 107 all out.
