Gas leak in Castletown

by isleofman.com 1st June 2015

2 Pumps from Castletown were dispatched to a call from a property in Stowell Place Castletown after the householder who was digging holes in their garden for fence posts hit a gas service pipe. The call came in just after 1200hrs on Saturday 30th May, due to the proximity of the incident to the Southern 100 course there was a slight delay to the start of the practice sessions while the situation was assessed.

On arrival of the first appliance an assessment was made and crews liaised with race control to allow the event to continue. Three properties were evacuated and a cordon set up as a precaution until the Manx Gas attended. All properties were carefully checked for a build-up of gas.

Manx Gas on arrival quickly clamped the service pipe and then cleared the affected property allowing the occupants back into their homes.

Contractors are always reminded when any type of excavation work takes place to ‘Dial before you dig’ the same precaution also applies to any householder, all utility companies will always give advice to property owners, their contact details can be found in the telephone directory.
