New car park charges in force

by isleofman.com 1st June 2015

The transfer of Drumgold Street and Chester Street car parks in Douglas from central government to local authority control takes effect from today.

Disabled badge holders will no longer be entitled to free parking and there's an increase in tariffs to bring all the Douglas Corporation car parks into line.

Councillor Ritchie McNicholl says: 'Initially users will experience only minor changes. The Council is confident that taking on these additional car parks will lead to opportunities to influence car park management policy across Douglas and capitalise on
economies of scale.

'The measure is also government endorsement of the Council’s proven ability to operate public car parks - namely the Shaw’s Brow, Bottleneck and King George V sites - and is a practical demonstration of the advantages of vesting local authorities with the powers to deliver local services at a local level.'
