At approximately 21:30hrs on Friday 29th May 2015 a request was made by the Ambulance Service to dispatch fire appliances from Kirk Michael and Peel Stations to assist in the recovery of two casualties involved in a road traffic collision at Handley’s Corner on the TT Course.
On arrival of the appliance from Kirk Michael it became apparent that the driver of a Renault Clio had lost control of the vehicle causing it to leave the road and after hitting a tree had ended up down a 3 metre embankment into a farmer’s field.
The driver and passenger managed to free themselves from the wreckage prior to the arrival of the Ambulance and were found lying on the hedge complaining of neck and spinal injuries. All the airbags in the vehicle had deployed, which highlighted how heavy the impact had been, which prevented more serious injuries being sustained.
Crews from Kirk Michael assisted the Ambulance personnel in carrying the casualties from the field into the Ambulance where they were transferred to Nobles Hospital.
Kirk Michael crew stayed in attendance for a further hour to make the vehicle safe and to light the area whilst the vehicle was recovered from the field.
