Isle of Man, 29 May 2015 – Dick Welsh, Director, Isle of Man Ship Registry will give the next presentation for the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) Isle of Man branch. The event, covering “the Isle of Man Ship Registry and what it means for the Isle of Man” will take place on Tuesday 16 June 2015 at the Claremont Hotel, Douglas.
Dick Welsh is an European Engineer (Eur.Ing); Chartered Engineer (C.Eng); a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (F.I.MarEST); a Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (M.I. Mech.E); and a Member of the Institute of Directors (M.IoD)
Born and raised in the Isle of Man before pursuing a sea-going career as an engineer, he sailed with T&J Harrisons and Canadian Pacific before coming ashore to work in the Isle of Man’s power stations. After leaving the Island to further his studies, Dick graduated with first class honours in Mechanical Engineering and joined Lloyd’s Register as a surveyor, where he trained in Liverpool before moving on to Denmark and China to oversee new building projects for chemical tankers and bulk carriers. Dick returned to the Island in 1995 to join the Isle of Man’s growing ship register as a Marine Surveyor and latterly Principal Surveyor, before becoming its Director in 2006, the first Manxman to hold the post.
Dick has a genuine desire to see the Isle of Man succeed as an international ship register and as a place to conduct maritime business. He enjoys promoting the Isle of Man around the globe to those who may not be aware of the benefits it has to offer. He enjoys life in the Isle of Man and believes it provides a wonderful, safe environment to raise his family.
Dick’s passion is rugby union. He is an ex-player and now coaches a local club side. He also enjoys sea swimming, skiing, fishing, boating and living the good life in the Isle of Man.
