A man was knocked unconscious in an attack at the weekend.

Police are investigating the assault which occurred at about 12.30am on Saturday May 23 on Church Street near its junction with Athol Street.

A spokesman said: 'The victim sustained a number of injuries to his head and body and was knocked unconscious during the attack; he spent the night in hospital as a result of being assaulted.'

Police are keen to speak to anybody who was out on Friday night/Saturday morning and may have witnessed the attack, particularly the driver of a minibus-type taxi that is believed to have shouted at the offender.
