King William’s College has unveiled a new Art Studio this week. The opening exhibition saw thirty three art and photography GCSE students’ work displayed to celebrate their creativity and skills.
The teaching space will be used by all age groups for lessons and will also give KWC an excellent exhibition space for not only the pupils’ work, but also potentially visiting artists. The space is a well-lit, modern teaching venue, and will provide KWC with a whole, dedicated art teaching block. Within one building will be two well-equipped specific teaching rooms, a technician’s space, a pottery and kiln room, a photographic darkroom, and computer facilities.
Along with funding from College resources, a substantial donation toward the project was received from Friends of KWC. KWC alumnus Nicholas Kitto (OKW 1968-1972) also generously donated to the Art School to celebrate his and other family members' time at KWC. This donation provided funds to equip the Studio with an excellent A1 photographic printer. This year we will also award the inaugural Kitto photography prize for the student who has excelled within photography.
Commenting at the official opening and launch of the GCSE exhibition Principal Martin Humphreys said, “We are delighted with this new space and what it provides for the pupils. I would like to thank Friends of KWC for their contribution to make this space happen and also Nick Kitto for his support. Without these important contributions we would not have been able to enhance the Art provision and provide the students here with the facilities their talents so richly deserve.
