Child's arm trapped in a radiator

by isleofman.com 27th May 2015

At lunch time today a crew from Castletown Fire Station were called to Victoria Road School to help assist a young boy who had managed to get his arm trapped in a radiator.

The crew used the hydraulic spreading equipment, which is normally used to extract casualties trapped in vehicles following a road traffic collision, to gently ease the two panels of the radiator apart until the child’s arm could be released.

The child was uninjured and was quickly able to return to his lunch. The Incident Commander, Leading Fire fighter Neil Garlick, praised the staff at the school for their actions prior to our arrival and for the manner in which they were able to keep the child calm, this made the job of releasing the child a lot easier.
