Isle of Man - 27 May 2015 - Staff in Appleby’s Isle of Man office have raised more than ?2,500 for the Nepal earthquake appeal.
Nepal was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on 25 April and a second quake measuring 7.3 on the Richter Scale on 12 May, killing thousands and affecting over 8 million people in the region.
Across the Appleby Group, staff organised a global fundraising day for the Disaster Emergency Committee, which is coordinating emergency aid in Nepal, including the delivery of shelter, medicine and provisions to the worst-affected areas.
In the Isle of Man office staff organised a bake sale and 10 volunteers took part in a sponsored leg wax.
Faye Moffett, head of the Appleby Isle of Man Charitable Foundation, said: “Everyone was shocked and saddened by the disaster in Nepal, and when the Appleby Group Chairman invited all staff to join a global fundraising day, we were quick to get involved and determined to raise as much money as we could.
”Funds to support the emergency aid work are desperately needed, and the latest earthquake has made that need even more urgent.
“We have already collected more than ?2,500 for the DEC, with more money coming in, and with fewer than 150 people working here I think that is an incredible achievement.”
