The Island’s Academy of Dance is delighted to present An Evening of Dance, a spectacular dance show at The Gaiety Theatre, showcasing its pupils’ talent, with children aged from 4 to 18 years old taking part.
Specially choreographed ballet, modern and contemporary dance pieces set to powerful music, with beautiful costumes and eye-catching backdrops will provide a great evening of entertainment for audiences of all ages.
The Academy of Dance pupils will perform dances they have been learning over the last six months, which have been created for the two night run on June 19-20 from 7.30pm. This will include a junior ballet production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ using the original soundtrack from the 1939 film, and a contemporary ballet piece which pays tribute to the tragic events of 9/11. The modern dance pieces are theatrical, fun and entertaining with striking costumes all sourced from the US.
An Evening of Dance will feature guest artists and brothers Kenzie and Rio Allison, who dance with David Cowley’s Represent Dance Company. Mariola Duszynska, a professional dancer from Poland, has choreographed a contemporary piece called ‘Sunrise’ for a group of advanced modern dance students.
A significant number of pupils who are taking GSCE Dance will perform, including 16 year old Summer Katz, who will showcase a self-choreographed contemporary dance piece alongside duet partner Amy Quayle.
Mari-Louise Britz, a principal of The Academy of Dance, explains: “While this show is a fantastic opportunity for children on the island to develop their confidence, stage and performance skills, it also enables our pupils to show a broad audience that ballet is a progressive art form which evolves all the time.”
Britz’s colleague and Co-principal Pippa Salter, who teaches modern, contemporary and GCSE/A level dance at The Academy of Dance, adds: “We are very proud of our pupils and how hard they have worked putting this performance together. The standard they have achieved is amazing. This promises to be an evening of powerful, exciting and beautiful dancing which will entertain everyone. Buy your tickets now for a show-stopping night!”
Tickets are available from the Villa Gaiety website and also from the Sea Terminal.
