Beach Buddies- Billown Circuit Clean-Up

by isleofman.com 27th May 2015

BEACH Buddies had 13 volunteers in action today as we cleared rubbish from around the Southern 100 Billown Cicuit, leaving it immaculate in time for this coming weekend's Blackford's Pre-TT Classic.

We will be doing the same again just before the very special Diamond Jubilee Isle of Man Steam Packet Southern 100 in July.

In all, we each collected one bag of rubbish, averaging around 300 items per bag, so somewhere in the region of 4,000 items were collected.

This was definitely the most efficient of the three years that we have been helping the Southern 100 team on the Billown circuit, and it was certainly a less arduous task than it was the first year - 2013 - when huge amounts of litter were removed from the side of the roads.

In fact, it appears that the 2013 event was responsible for removing easily more than a decade's worth of rubbish which had gathered at the side of the road, and in amongst the hedgerows.

Well done to everyone who took part today, and especially the "founders" of the event - Ron Ronan and Dave Wilkinson - who came up with the idea in 2013.

Best wishes to all competitors in the Pre-TT Classic and the Steam Packet Post-TT Races on the Billown Circuit at the end of Race Week.
