Opposition group meets Minister

by isleofman.com 27th May 2015

Campaigners who want to prevent the horse tram tracks from relocating onto Douglas promenade walkway have had a meeting with Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne.

A facebook group called 'Keep cars and trams off the walkway' now has more than 1,400 supporters.

They want to keep the walkway free of cars and horses. Ambitious plans for the promenade include installing a single horse tram track on the prom alongside the sunken gardens.

The group states: 'This was a progressive meeting in which we clearly explained our particular issues, primarily with keeping the walkway as a public amenity for pedestrians and cyclists. The first thing to note is that we did not effect immediate change in this meeting, however we should never have thought we would, we have however made our view known strongly, and I am certain our objections are more clearly known.'
