Manx Cricket Report 24/05/2015

There was some great bowling leading to three big wins in the Isle of Man Premiership on Saturday.

Champions Peel and St John’s  were at their very best as they dismissed Ramsey for just 40. Akkie van den Berg took 4 wickets for just 7 runs and there were three wicket hauls for Kieran Cawte and Nick Hawke.

Tom Moffatt then rocked the Saints by taking a wicket with his first ball, but Ollie Webster quickly took charge. He smashed 27 not out as his side raced to victory in under four overs.

Batting first at Tromode Crosby found the going hard against Cronkbourne. Jaco Jansen had a fine opening spell of three wickets for just two runs in five overs. He then pulled up injured and had to leave the field.

Sam Kebble took over and soon had the key wicket of Danny Kniveton lbw for 21. Carl Wagstaffe came on and claimed three wickets in his first over.

Crosby were finally dismissed for 67 but soon had the Douglas team in trouble. At 16 for 2 the match could have gone either way, but an excellent 35 from opener Max Stokoe calmed the home side’s nerves.

There was a wobble with the total on 55 when Jack Telford dismissed Stokoe and then took another wicket in the same over. However sensible batting by Eddie Beard guided his team to all 20 points.

Castletown found form when they beat Valkyres. The Town ran up 219 for 8, mainly thanks to a fine 64 from George Burrows, 30 by Richard Jackson and 27 from Garreth Roome. Ryan Windell was the pick of the bowlers with 3 -40.

Sam Callister then roared in to devastate the Douglas batsmen. He turned in a superb spell of pace bowling to return 6 -30. Windell made 18 and Chris Nash 17, but the side were dismissed for 66 to give Castletown their first win of the season.
