Beach cleaning switches to saturday - for a change

by isleofman.com 22nd May 2015

Beach cleaning this weekend switches to a Saturday (23rd May) for a change when Beach Buddies holds a session at Spaldrick in Port Erin tomorrow morning. In contrast to recent weeks, the weather forecast is very good.

In response to reports from the public, the charity will tackle a beach which has an ongoing problem with rubbish, being a section of coastline where rubbish gathers in large quantities, and becomes trapped in the bay.

The session has been switched to a Saturday to give an opportunity for volunteers to take part who are normally involved in other activities on Sundays - the traditional day for Beach Buddies’ events.

As usual, Beach Buddies will provide all the necessary equipment, including litterpickers, gloves and bin bags, and will dispose of the items collected afterwards. New volunteers are always welcome, especially families. There is no age limit.

The number of items collected will again by counted this weekend, to add to the growing statistics gathered by the charity.

Saturday’s event is being sponsored by the PR and photography company Offshore Public Relations who will provide drinks and snacks for all volunteers and a prize for the volunteer who guesses closest to the total number of items collected.
