Pictured are Buchan School beekeepers busy working on hive inspections on two beehives at their school.
The Buchan Bees are beginning to work hard although honey production is taking a back seat to brood rearing at the moment. There have been 4 successful hive inspections thus far with 16 different pupils experiencing the practical side of beekeeping through hive inspections. Pupils in the beekeeping club have been busy painting hives and doing weekly inspections to ensure the colonies are safe from disease and building up well in preparation for the main nectar flows.
It is early days, but the Buchan hopes to be able to take a crop of honey from both hives to be used in school later in the year.
