Manx Telecom staff were inspired by the story of Noa Bakehouse entrepreneurs Miles and Pippa Petit at a motivational event hosted by the company. Over 250 staff from the Island’s leading communications solutions provider attended the staff briefing event which was held over three days at Mount Murray golf club.
When the couple founded Noa Bakehouse in 2013 it was the culmination of an ambition which they had to run their own bakery.
Pippa grew up on the Island, and Miles moved here in the 1990s. They moved to London in 2002, but both turned their backs on successful careers (Miles in the film industry and Pippa in investment banking) and returned to the Isle of Man in 2012 to pursue their dream. In just over two years the artisan bakery in Fort Street, Douglas, has established a loyal band of customers by offering delicious fresh bread, homemade cakes and freshly ground coffee.
At the Manx Telecom event, Miles explained the importance of the principles behind the business which are shared by Miles, Pippa and their staff. The event also featured a fun ‘bake-off’ competition with the Noa Bakehouse experts lending a helping hand to help staff create the Manx Telecom logo using dough.
Manx Telecom Marketing Director David Smith says that the remarkable Noa Bakehouse story was ideal for inspiring everyone within the company to refocus on its core values; enterprising, proactive, confident, and trusted. He added:
“This was the third year we have held our annual ‘staff briefing’ event and from feedback, this was the best yet. As always it was a great opportunity to thank our colleagues for their hard work and to look forward to the forthcoming year. Spending time with the team from Noa Bakehouse also enabled us to compare and appraise the service we deliver to the Isle of Man public, giving us much food for thought! As Manx companies, we share many of the same philosophies and values, but at our very heart, the high service we deliver day in day out to our customers is what we both believe sets us apart in our markets. It’s important for us to invest time in this type of event so that everyone understands where Manx Telecom is heading, the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead, and the role that each of us must play in delivering our business objectives. Miles’ enthralling account of the journey he and Pippa have made was really uplifting and shares many parallels with our own attitude towards the importance of focusing on our values and service excellence.”
The staff briefing event was the last to be attended by current Manx Telecom CEO, Mike Dee, who recently announced his plans to retire from a full time executive career during the second half of 2015.
