A chimney fire broke out on the Steam Packet vessel Ben-my-Chree on its way to Heysham this morning.
The ferry operator says no-one was injured and there is no significant damage to the boat.
Engineers investigated the incident before allowing the Ben to continue on her journey.
A spokesman for the Steam Packet said: 'The Captain ensured that passengers on board were kept informed throughout the incident. All relevant authorities have been informed.'
