King William’s College students raise over ?2000 for Wish Upon A Dream

by isleofman.com 15th May 2015
The Fourth Form (ages 11-13) at King William’s College has raised over ?2,000 for the Wish upon a Dream charity, after students took part in a sponsored triathlon. The event consisted of a 10 length swim, 2000m bike ride and 1200m run during the bank holiday on May 4th. Prizes were awarded for the winners of each age group category, whilst there were also awards for the top fundraisers and those displaying outstanding endeavour. However, the most pleasing accomplishment was the collective sense of achievement that was gained from completing the course and fundraising for such a worthy cause.

Money raised will go towards building a rooftop garden for Finley (aged 4) who suffers from a severe form of dwarfism. It will give him the freedom and independence that most children take for granted. Wish Upon a Dream Founder Lesley Turnbull attended a special assembly, along with Finley and his mother, where they were presented with a cheque from King William’s College students. The students in the picture each raised over ?100 each. Robyn Wickers and Will Campbell raised ?172/?210 individually, a fantastic achievement!

The Stenning Triathlon will now become an annual event, following on from the success of the Buchan triathlon over the last few years. Children raising money for other children less fortunate than themselves was a massive motivation for KWC pupils. 13-24 minutes of hard graft for the students will certainly make a huge difference to the life of Finley and they should be really proud of their achievements. King William’s College now look forward to a bigger and better triathlon next year, where they aim to beat the ?2200 fundraising target!
