Polo club attracts blue chip sponsors as sport continues to grow

by isleofman.com 13th May 2015

Just over six months after being founded, the Triskelion Polo Club is attracting some big brands as corporate sponsors as the popularity of the sport on the Island continues to grow. The club, which is based at Grenaby Mooar, Malew, was set up towards the end of last year and has already taught many complete novices how to play the game. Earlier this year it also organised the Island’s first fully competitive polo matches in February this year.

The club is run by General Manager Frazer Houston and his brother Cameron who are both experienced polo players and all-round horsemen. Frazer, a former National Hunt jockey who rode winners for leading trainers including Sue and Harvey Smith, commented:

“Polo has always attracted blue chip brands as sponsors because of its appeal as a prestige sporting and social occasion. Polo is the ‘next big thing’ when it comes to businesses looking for corporate entertainment and branding opportunities, or for team building events – and we’ve been delighted with the interest in the sport since we founded the club.”

Mylchreests Motors Limited (the well-known Land Rover, MG and Mitsubishi dealership); Buchanan BMW; Ramsey Crookall; and strategic aviation management company Luvair are among a select group of Triskelion Polo Club’s corporate sponsors already on board. Paddy Power Online are also delighted to support the club and are looking forward to an exciting first polo season on the Island. The club has a superb grass pitch which will provide a perfect venue for matches this summer, and there’s also a marquee available for sponsors to entertain clients, and VIP parking. Frazer added:

“Polo is ideal for corporates. The excellent facilities we have at Grenaby Mooar, combined with a range of attractive sponsorship and branding opportunities, have enabled us to attract some excellent sponsors already and we’re extremely grateful for their support. But we still have a range of exclusive sponsorship opportunities available and are in discussions with a number of other leading businesses.”

David Mylchreest, Managing Director of Mylchreests Motors Limited, commented:

“As the ‘sport of Kings’ Mylchreests Land Rover are delighted to be associated with Triskelion Polo Club. Polo is new to the Isle of Man and will appeal to many existing Land Rover owners and we hope new ones as well, so as well as supporting an exciting new venture we will be showcasing the latest range of Land Rovers at polo matches during the season.”

Sponsorship packages are available via leading marketing and communications agency MM&C. For more details contact MM&C Managing Director Craig Wolstencroft by emailing craig@mmc.co.im or calling 678001.
