Plans for the redevelopment of Douglas Promenade are on public display at the Sea Terminal.
The proposals, announced by the Department of Infrastructure this week, feature modern design techniques and an innovative new layout.
As well as delivering much-needed improvements to the highway, footways and drainage, the refurbishment scheme aims to strike a better balance between the needs of road users and pedestrians. It would also see the removal of the twin horse tram tracks from the middle of the road and the introduction of a single track on the promenade walkway.
Presentations have been delivered to Tynwald Members and key stakeholder groups this week and the plans will be available for public view in the Sea Terminal foyer for the next month.
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK said: ‘I would encourage as many people as possible to come and take a look at the proposals and get a feel for what we are trying to achieve. Our desire is to instil a sense of place that attracts people to the promenade and town centre. We see this redevelopment as an opportunity to support the economy and create a national asset the Isle of Man can be proud of.’
