Modern street layout envisaged for Douglas prom

Bold new proposals to upgrade Douglas promenade have been revealed, transforming not only its appearance but the way the key route is used by drivers and pedestrians.
No traffic lights, no pedestrian crossings and speed limits of 20 miles per hour could be in place, if the Department of Infrastructure's ?21 million regeneration proposals win planning and Tynwald approval.
Last week the DoI highlighted the work of UK urban design specialist Ben Hamilton-Baillie in a number of UK towns, via his YouTube channel.
His concepts for the 'sharing' of space by traffic and people with much lighter deliniation between pavements and roads, have heavily influenced the plans.
Mr Hamilton-Baillie says people are often daunted when they first see his ideas, but realise in time how effective they can be:
