Charity Handbag Appeal

by isleofman.com 1st May 2015

Manx Cancer Help has teamed up once again with Conister Bank to launch its annual appeal for handbags. If you have handbags gathering dust at the back of your wardrobe,  this is your opportunity to spring clean your closets and donate bags which can be resold and ‘re-loved’ to raise much needed funds for the charity.

The appeal has proved very successful over the last two years and Manx Cancer Help is once again grateful for the assistance of Sure IOM, which has kindly agreed to use its shops in Douglas, Port Erin and Ramsey as drop off points.

Ally Martin, Fundraising Events Coordinator at Manx Cancer Help, said: ‘We really appreciate the support from our sponsor, Conister Bank, who will be hosting the Handbag Extravaganza and selling the handbags on its stand at the Royal Manx Agricultural Show on 7th and 8th August 2015.

‘The handbag appeal is a fantastic fundraising event, one which we look forward to each year; all of us ladies have a few handbags in the back of our wardrobe or in a box under our bed that we no longer use but someone else would love to have. We really appreciate the support we get for this event from the local community – without these kind donations we wouldn’t be able to provide the valuable services which benefit so many on the Island.’

In previous years the public have been extremely supportive and donated a large number of bags ranging from every day to evening bags, purses, and sports bags, including a donation from the charity’s patron Katie Melua.

Kerry Waddington at Conister Bank, added: ‘We love being part of this fabulous event, it is great to be involved in something that makes a real difference to the lives of people here on the Isle of Man. Each year I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the general public and hope this year’s event will be bigger and better!’

Sarah Jarvis, Marketing Manager at Sure, said: ‘With shops in three convenient locations, it made sense for us to help Manx Cancer Help in this way. The charity provides crucial services for our Island’s community, and we hope to see as many handbags being donated through our shops as possible to help raise funds for this worthy cause.’

Established in 1983, Manx Cancer Help provides specialist psychological therapies for people with cancer and their loved ones.  It offers a series of free, confidential sessions, face-to-face and over the phone, to anyone affected by cancer.

To support the Manx Cancer Help Handbag Appeal please drop your pre-loved handbags into any of the Sure shops in Strand Street Douglas, Orchard Walk Port Erin (opposite Shoprite) and Parliament Street Ramsey.
