Sleepwell Hotels at the Front of the Pack

by isleofman.com 30th April 2015

Sleepwell Hotels is pleased to announce its continued sponsorship of the Isle of Man Youth Cycle Tour, which returns to the Island’s roads over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The event, which is organised by the IOM Cycling Association and has for many years been backed financially and logistically by Sleepwell Hotels, is a major part of the British Cycling Junior Road and Youth Circuit Series, and as a result attracts hundreds of 5 to 18 year old competitors from across the UK, as well as international riders.

This year sees a record number of entries for the three day event, which includes routes in Douglas, Peel, Ellerslie and Ramsey. The Isle of Man Youth Tour is the only open road racing event of the British Junior Series, which makes it a unique and exciting prospect for many young local and British cyclists. Past winners of the overall junior classification include Manxman and British Olympic Gold medallist Peter Kennaugh MBE.

Mark Wilson is the Managing Director of the event sponsor Sleepwell Hotels, who provide cash funding, organisational support, subsidised rider and family accommodation and catering for a Gala presentation at the Villa Marina.

He explained why the company has provided such extensive backing for the Tour: “This is a fantastic local event, providing an opportunity not just to showcase the tremendous cycling talent on the Island, but also to showcase the Island itself to a huge overseas audience of competitors and their support crews. We take great pride in playing such an important role as part of the support crew, which each year helps this event go from strength to strength. There is also a broader value for the local economy that shouldn’t be overlooked. The annual Sleepwell Hotels Youth Cycling Tour contributes over 1,500 bed nights to local hotels over this weekend every year, in turn bringing additional travel, retail and leisure spend across the Island. We are really looking forward to this weekend’s competition and I would like to welcome and wish every rider the best of luck.”
