Race The Sun helps sponsors celebrate 10th anniversary

by isleofman.com 28th April 2015

Mann Made Group celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, and the company will be marking the occasion with some special prizes in a charity run which raises funds for The Children’s Centre. The Race The Sun round the Island relay takes place on Saturday May 23 and involves teams running a clockwise lap of the Island’s Raad ny Foillan coastal footpath between sunrise and sunset, starting and finishing in Peel. The event – which is again sponsored by Mann Made Group this year – has raised more than ?80,000 to help vulnerable children and young people here in the Isle of Man. Organisers are hoping the 2015 run will take the total funds raised by Race The Sun to over ?100,000. There are 10 sections of the relay route, and the final leg from Niarbyl to Peel will be a sight to see as the runners are being encouraged to wear fancy dress. Mann Made Group will choose the winner with the best costume and present the runner with vouchers to spend in the local Up and Running store.

Mann Made Group – which is a leading supplier of corporate and trust services to professional advisors and high net worth individuals and families – have sponsored Race the Sun for the past six years. Alan Hollingsworth, Principal and Managing Director of the Mann Made Group, commented:

“We are celebrating a major milestone this year. From starting in a small office with four staff we have grown into a truly international company employing over 40 staff with offices in Europe and Asia. We are very proud of our success and will be celebrating throughout 2015 with special events in the Isle of Man, London and Switzerland. We continue to support local charities and are happy to help the less privileged. Race the Sun is one of the few running events I personally enjoy taking part in.”

Each Race The Sun team can have up to 10 runners, and the average distance for each leg is around 10 miles long. The winners are the first team to complete the 100-mile route which this year will include the newly opened Langness section. There’s a ‘Golden Shoe’ award for the team which raises the most funds, and the Up & Running store in Douglas has donated prizes for the fastest time set on each leg and for the team that finishes closest to sunset time. Teams can start any time from 5am onwards – but those aiming to win the closest finish to sunset prize will choose their start time carefully.

Mark Eastham, Fundraising Co-ordinator for The Children’s Centre, said:

“We must thank Mann Made Group for their continued support which is greatly appreciated. While Race The Sun has become a competitive event in its own right, the emphasis is always on fun and fundraising so the fancy dress theme for the final leg is a great idea. We’re looking forward to helping Mann Made Group celebrate their 10th anniversary. Thanks also to Up & Running for their generous support, and to all of the teams already signed up for this year’s event.”

There’s still time to register your team for Race the Sun 2015 – just go to www.thechildrenscentre.org.im and click on the ‘Events’ section, or contact Mark Eastham by emailing markeastham@thechildrenscentre.org.im or by calling 01624 631917.
