Blooming good show at Bunscoill Rhumsaa

by isleofman.com 27th April 2015

Bunscoill Rhumsaa pupils have shown their green-fingered talents in Ramsey Town Commissioners’ annual bulb-growing competition.

Now in its 35th year, the competition sees the Commissioners provide pupils with daffodil bulbs, planting compost, a pot and growing instructions. The bulbs are grown by the children at home then brought to school for judging in early spring by Commissioner Sylvia Beattie, head gardener Bobby Cunningham and local horticulturalist Pat Goodway.

Ahead of awarding the prizes Mrs Beattie said: ‘Presenting the awards is always a delight, as the children clearly take great pride in growing their bulbs and, along the way, learn about how a humble bulb can, over time, transform into a beautiful flower. Every pupil is to be congratulated on their efforts and thanks are also due to the parents and teachers for their encouragement and support of a competition the Commissioners are proud to have run for so many years.’
