Work of Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service boosted

by isleofman.com 27th April 2015
The work of the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service at Noble’s Hospital in supporting patients with cancer and their carers, received a boost recently from the fundraising efforts of staff at the Isle of Man Financial Supervision Commission (FSC).

The service based in the foyer of Noble’s Hospital provides free information, support and advice to anyone affected by cancer including a lending library with a wide range of information such as leaflets, books and videos available to borrow, to help patients and carers learn more about cancer.

The FSC is an independent statutory body in the Isle of Man and is the regulator of a wide range of financial services businesses on the Island.

Anna Featherstone, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Manager, said: “We were naturally thrilled to find out that the FSC had chosen to support the work of Macmillan in the Isle of Man as their nominated charity of the year for 2014.  We shared with them information about the work we do to support patients with cancer and their families.

“Through fundraising ideas and events during the year, they have donated over ?2,300 to support our work.  Some of these funds have been put to good use in purchasing new and updated literature to complement the range of information available from our lending library.

“The donation of books and the additional funds will ensure that the service continues providing people affected by cancer with information and support that is accurate, appropriate and of a high quality at the time when it is most appropriate for them.

“Thank you to all the FSC staff for your fundraising endeavours and for supporting Macmillan.”
