Double delight for Bacchas and Vikings

by isleofman.com 25th April 2015
The dominant forces in Manx hockey clinched league and cup doubles on Saturday.
Bacchas A won the Men’s Cup Final with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over arch rivals Valkyrs A, who had won the competition in four of the previous five seasons.
A dominant first half saw the league champions open up a 4-1 half-time lead to seal the trophy.
Tom Evans was the hero with a hat-trick, one from the penalty spot, while Jamie Brown and Andy Vernon-Browne netted the others.
Ollie Webster scored for Valkyrs early on to briefly restore parity but Bacchas completed a dominant season to ensure their opponents ended the campaign without silverware.
It was a similar story in the Women’s Cup Final as league champions Vikings A also completed a league and cup double and a 100 per cent record.
They were always in control on their way to a 7-1 thrashing of Valkyrs A.
Doubles from Kim Carney and Kirsty Cooper, and one apiece from Louise Slater, Dani Coombes and Kirsty Bowley, sparked the celebrations.
Karmina Kovanda scored the Valkyrs consolation.
Ramsey B ended the season in style, holding off a spirited challenge from Bacchas Colts to win the Men’s Plate.
Matt Greenbank (two), Aaron Bell, Dan Stevenson, Patrick Couper-Woods and John Gower-Jackson grabbed the goals in a 6-2 victory.
Colts had fought back from 2-0 down to level through Callum Barker and Mark Parsons.
But when Ramsey regained the lead just before the break, it signalled the northerners taking control as they went onto capture the silverware.
Vikings B rounded off a good day for the club by lifting the Women’s Plate.
A 3-0 success over Castletown B was sealed by strikes from Mel Bell, Aalish Kerford and Jan Carney.
