The Department of Infrastructure says dredging operations in Peel will continue today (25 April).
The department says it’ll have road sweepers on hand throughout the day to clear up any mess, a day after police revealed they wouldn’t take any action after complaints about spills of contaminated mud on roads.
The dumping of dredged material at Poortown, as a temporary store for contaminated silt, sparked a row between the Department of Infrastructure and German Commissioners.
Both parties have since reached an agreement which means the specially engineered facility can be used as a storage site for up to five years.
There was anger when some of the silt leaked from a contractors lorry on roads in a Peel housing estate.
In Tynwald this week, Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne said he was hopeful most of the material will be removed before TT to allow the harbour to operate safely.
Today’s dredging is due to finish at 5.30pm.
