The Canterbury model is an extrememly viable option for the Island's health and social care system.
That's according to the department's chief executive Mark Charters, who has just returned from New Zealand with health minister Howard Quayle to find out more about it.
The model aims to prevent large numbers of people being treated in hospital for preventable diseases, and improve the treatment of other conditions through care in the community.
