Isle of Man Squash to compete in European Team Championships

by isleofman.com 21st April 2015

The Isle of Man men’s squash team will travel to Slovenia this week to compete in the European Team Championships.

The event takes place in Ljubljana from April 22 to 25 and the Island’s first matches will be against Lithuania and Slovenia.

The six-man team for 2015 includes Robin Crease, Ashley Sandyford-Skyes, Dewald Joubert , Patrick Fitzpatrick, Malcolm Levi and Dave Norman.

This will be Robin Crease’s eighth international cap, having first represented the Isle of Man in Europe at the age of 16. He said “To represent the Island around Europe is a great opportunity. The Isle of Man has been a regular at this tournament for many years and has built itself a strong international record.”

The Isle of Man recorded its best ever finish in last year’s competition in Croatia where they reached 4th place. This equated to a position of 20th out of the 50 European nations.

This year’s entry has been possible thanks to sponsorship from Hartford Homes, which is assisting with the team’s travel and accommodation expenses.

Robin added “It is important to continue building on our reputation in Europe. Thanks to the sponsorship contribution from Hartford Homes we are able to attend the tournament this year.”

Robin went on to say that he and the team were also pleased to support Orange Wig Day next month (May 15th), a UK-wide awareness day for the allergy and anaphylaxis epidemic.

Hartford Homes director James Greenhalgh said “We are delighted to have been able to assist the team and are also grateful for their support of our nominated charity, the Anaphylaxis Campaign.  We wish them every success with the competition.”
