Packet supports Legion's pilgrimage to Gallipoli

by isleofman.com 21st April 2015

The Steam Packet Company is supporting a trek to Turkey by the Island's Royal British Legion, to mark the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign during World War One.
The RBL's Dave Llewellyn is driving a van across Europe to lay wreaths and crosses at memorial and cemetries in honour of the 39 Manx men who lost their lives in the conflict.
The Steam Packet has offered a free passage for Dave and his vehicle between the Isle of Man and England, on the first leg of his journey to the Cape Helles memorial, where a ceremony will be held on 25 April.
Next month a special concert will be staged to raise money for other travel costs for the visit.
Castletown Silver Band will perform at the Civic Centre on 12 May in an event hosted the town's Royal British Legion, starting at 7.30pm.
