Ongoing works to dump silt from Peel marina at Poortown quarry will be the subject of two Tynwald questions today.
Onchan MHK David Quirk is asking Environment Minster Richard Ronan whether his department knew about the operation and what advice was given to the Department of Infrastructure. And he will ask Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne how the tender for the work was put together.
The government has moved to reassure the public over the decision to dump 18,000 tons of silt that was threatening the closure of Peel marina. An agreement is being put in place that will limit the site as a storage facility for no longer than five years. The site won't be used as a location for any permanent problematic wastes store, and the government has pledged to publish the results of fortnightly water testing as well as help German Commissioners fund independent monitoring of water samples.
