E-Petitions - let's talk about it!

Encouraging politicians to bring the petitioning process into the 21st century.

That’s what a public meeting will explore this evening (Monday) with calls for the Island’s historic petition process to be updated.

The Positive Action Group is debating whether the Manx government should establish an e-petition system, which would allow Island residents to ask Tynwald to consider any issue, problem or proposal it has power to deal with.

The traditional petition for redress of grievance procedure allows members of the public to present grievances once a year, on Tynwald Day.

Roger Tomlinson from the group believes e-petitions would be much simpler, more immediate and less formal.

Let’s Talk About It, at the Manx Legion Club in Market Hill in Douglas, will follow on from the group’s annual general meeting which starts at 7pm.Clip 1
