Last Thursday, 16th April, was the Annual General Meeting of Peel RNLI lifeboat station. And those present heard it had been a successful year both on land and at sea.
The Chairman Stuart Blackley opened the meeting and welcomed all the volunteers and thanked them for their help and support during the year. He stated that the cooperation at Peel station is held up as role model to the rest of the RNLI. He also said that following the visit of Charles Hunter Pease he had made a comment that he was very impressed with Peel station and its volunteers and that Peel’s Mersey class lifeboat was one of the best kept that he had seen anywhere in the country.
Margaret Kelly both station and fund raising treasurer then gave her report stating that the station expenditure locally had been minimal but the fund raising committee had exceeded their target and had raised the wonderful sun of ?32,000 towards the running of the RNLI and thanked all who had helped in anyway.
Paddy Kelly the fund raising Chairman thanked all the volunteers and Paul Cain for their help. She also welcomed two new members to the committee.
Allan Corlett’s report as Lifeboat Operations Manager was read by Eddie Allen in his absence and stated that Peel had been the busiest station on the Isle of Man during the year with several call outs being carried out in gale force conditions. He welcomed back former coxswain Paul Jones as Deputy Launch Authority and said that recruitment had been good during the year but there was still a need for new crew members both shore and sea.
The Chairman concluded the meeting by thanking all concerned in Peel lifeboat station saying that it had been a particularly successful year.
