Isle of Man Archery Club Report - April 12th

by isleofman.com 14th April 2015
The IoM Archery Club held their first official round of the Outdoor season at Greeba on Sunday. Unfortunately torrential rain and driving winds prevented shooting from starting until 2pm. It was soggy underfoot and the wind was piercing and troublesome. Well wrapped up against the elements Sunday’s small group found their fingers going numb after a while which did not help the shooting. Desperate to get something out of the afternoon the group decided to shoot a half round, that is 18 arrows at each of four distances (90, 70, 50, 30m for the Gents and 70, 60, 50, 30m for the Ladies and Juniors) instead of the usual 36.

It was an interesting afternoon with Pete Mumford breaking in his new compound bow against Rhys Moore who has switched to compound on coming outdoors. Rhys who was clearly enjoying himself led from start to finish and took the win by 19 points.

Danny Cowin was on his own in the Gents Recurve division and found the wind unhelpful over the longest distance. Danny was unhappy with his score but still recorded a personal best for the round.

Joy Gough was also on her own in the Ladies Compound division but coped well the dreadful conditions to add 44 points to her pb for the round.

Barbara Harris struggled with the longer distances but still managed to add 26 points to her pb for the round. Charlotte Harris put in a score 28 points higher than her mother but the highest Recurve score of the day came from fellow Junior Josh Trafford.

Results: Gents Compound – 1. Rhys Moore 71/615/12/6pb, 2. Pete Mumford 72/596/7/5. Ladies Compound – Joy Gough 72/604/16/4pb. Gents Recurve – Danny Cowin 66/448/3/1. Ladies Recurve – Barbara Harris 68/424/3/1pb. Junior Gents Recurve – Josh Trafford 70/499/8/3pb. Junior Girls Recurve – Charlotte Harris 67/452/6/1pb.

Can Club members with Indoor Trophies please hand them in as soon as possible as they need to be engraved ahead of the AGM in May.
