A public meeting has been called over the transportation of hazardous waste after photos of a spillage were taken today (pictured).
German Parish Commissioners say they are 'very disappointed' that work to move the waste from Peel marina to the Poortown Road site has got under way before environmental protection, such as settlement lagoons, has been completed.
In a statement, the local authority complains that no meaningful public consultation has taken place, adding: 'This has been compounded by the spillage of this contaminated waste over the streets and pavements of Peel and the surrounding area. There are also trucks queuing on the road at the site in direct contradiction of DEFA’s own risk review.'
The commissioners have called a public meeting for this Thursday at 7.30pm in St John's Methodist Hall which is open to anybody to attend. Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne and Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Richard Ronan have been invited.
