Isle of Man Club field archer Lesley Sleight competed over the weekend in a two day Fita field competition at Bruton in Somerset. On the Saturday Lesley shot extremely well in some very windy conditions and smashed her own British Fita 24 unmarked record. Her score of 231 was a whopping 21 points more than her previous UK record which she broke in 2013.
The following day was a Fita 24 marked round and again another very windy day. Lesley although down on her usual scores did just enough to break her own British combined Fita record by 4 points totalling 400 points over the two days.
Lesley said:
‘To break 2 UK records on my very first shoot of the season feels fantastic. Hard work over the winter has really paid off. I was also given the opportunity by the Isle of Man Sports Institute to have two sessions with a sports psychologist and this has helped me mentally prepare for the coming season. I would like to thank them for their support."
Lesley has now gained three selection scores for consideration for the Great Britain Field Team. The team will be announced at the All British Field Championships at the end of May.
