Caren Pegg, Head of Appleby Global’s Isle of Man Employment team is to be the guest speaker at the next Isle of Man Council of Voluntary Organizations event.
Entitled “The Impact on Third Sector Organizations of “The Equality Bill 2015” Caren’s talk will explore the implications of the proposed legislation on the way in which third sector organizations, which comprise charitable, voluntary and community groups along with sporting organisations, operate and the impact on their governance and management.
The talk takes place on Thursday 16th April at Marsham Court, Victoria Avenue, Douglas commencing at 6.00pm with tea and coffee available from 5.30pm.
A spokesman for the Council stated that they were fortunate to have someone of Caren's calibre to speak to the sector on this pending legislation. Whilst the equalities legislation is of importance to the sector in terms of the work it carries out in the community, the groups of individuals it serves or represents it also has implications for third sector organisations in terms of their own management and administration he added.
Whilst enjoying charitable status such organisations are bound by the same legal requirements as everyone else and the Council of Voluntary Organisations are giving them the opportunity to hear at an early stage what might be required of them
Caren is currently chair of the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce Employment and Training Committee which specifically looks at forthcoming employment legislation and government initiatives concerning commerce. She joined Appleby in 2001 and qualified as an Isle of Man advocate in 2003. She has also been working with the third sector and Government over recent months on disability access issues.
