The Department of Infrastructure is seeking feedback on proposals to update the Isle of Man’s highways legislation.
A public consultation was launched last Friday, 10 April 2015, on the draft Highways (Amendment) Bill 2015.
The Bill proposes a series of amendments to the Highways Act 1986, with the aim of enabling safety improvements to the highway and providing greater clarity on various miscellaneous matters.
Some of the key issues members of the public are being invited to comment on include measures enabling the Department to:
• Develop its land next to a highway to improve the surroundings
• Designate improvement lines for the widening of highways at accident blackspots
• Require the corners of proposed new buildings to be rounded or splayed off to prevent an obstruction
• Remove debris or other objects left at the side of a highway that may cause an immediate danger
• Prohibit people from misusing parking places to advertise the sale of their vehicles
• Make better provision with respect to highway amenities
• Improve access to highways from adjoining land in the interests of road safety
• Prevent footpaths or bridleways being blocked
A copy of the draft Highways (Amendment) Bill 2015 and an impact assessment can be viewed on the Government website at
