Review of Tynwald's Committee System: Call for Evidence

by isleofman.com 9th April 2015

Tynwald has established a Select Committee to review its committee system.

It was resolved in Tynwald on 17th March 2015:
That a committee of three members be appointed with powers to take written and oral evidence pursuant to sections 3 and 4 of the Tynwald Proceedings Act 1876, as amended, to review the committee system and to report.

The Members elected to the Committee by Tynwald are Mr Leonard Singer MHK, Mr Chris Thomas MHK and Hon Juan Watterson MHK. The Committee has elected Mr Watterson as its chair.

The Committee has decided to give members of the public the opportunity to submit any comments and opinions on Tynwald’s committee system. Submissions should be sent so as to arrive by 5pm on Friday 24th April 2015. E-mail is preferred but hard copy is equally acceptable.

The Committee intends to publish evidence as it is received, in order to encourage debate. Respondents are therefore asked to indicate clearly whether or not they are content for their submissions to be published.

The Hansard for the debate which led to Committee being established is available at the following location:

These elements of the Committee system were previously reviewed in 2010 to 2011. The report of the previous Select Committee on the Committee System is available at the following location:
