Rates rejig could cause problems: minister

The current domestic rating system is arcane, difficult to understand and difficult to calculate.

That's according to Treasury minister Eddie Teare, who launched a public consultation last month about potential reforms.

Under the proposals, owners would have to declare their property value themselves, and the rates due would be based on a banding system.

But, speaking on Manx Radio's Talking Heads programme, Mr Teare admitted the new system could cause problems:Clip 1
