The Mitre sponsored 5-a-side semi finals and final took place onTuesday 31st March with the draw being made at 7.15pm. The draw kept the two favourites apart but with the new format favourites opuld easily be beaten.
Plough A 13 - 0 Central
The Central just never got going in this match and with the format being as simple as one leg and you're off for the next game you needed to get off to a strong start.
With wins of 13 - 1 & 13 - 0 could anyone push the Plough? The only player in their ranks to lose a leg so far in the comp was Robert Nelson.
Mitre 2 - 13 Bar Logo A
This was a lot closer than the 13 - 2 scoreline suggests as the Mitre team simply missed crucial doubles when they were most needed. Roy Dunlop made it 1 - 1 but that was as close as it got thanks mainly to 14 and 16 dart legs by Alan Young and a 15 darter by Andy Evans. Paul 'Aggie' Arthur the only player still unbeaten for Logo.
FINAL
Plough A 13 - 9 Bar Logo A
We have been spoilt this year with great finals and this was yet another. Nothing splits these sides regards quality of thrower but in the end the Plough team hit the doubles at the crucial times.
Geoff Howland and Andrew Hudgeon got the Plough off to the best of starts, Aggie then beats Paul Palmer to deal Pauls only lose of the competition, this was followed up by Andy beating Hudgie to level the tie up.
Robbie and Hudgie give the Plough a two leg lead again as they defeat Alan and Aggie respectively (4 - 2).
Andy beat Robbie and Geoff beat Alan before Ian M Fields inflicted the first defeat for Gazza Uren to make the match 5 - 4 in favour of the Plough. Palmer beat Sharpie and Alan turned on the torment to poor Gazza as he loset his second leg in a row (6 - 5).
This is where the Plough turned the screw and in my opinion this is where the match was won as Palmer, Hudgie, Robbie x 2 and Geoff all won to extend the lead to 11 - 5.
Aggie took Geoff's only scalp of the comp with a 13 darter. This seemed to spark the Logo back into life as they took the next two legs thanks to Andy, Ian. Alan then lost to Palmer leaving the Plough at match point on 12 - 8.
Aggie beat Gazza to make it 12 - 9 but it was Robbie Nelson who won it for the Plough A as he beat Ian Fields to raise the crown.
The format was a complete success and not one player was left undefeated, the best being Geoff and Palmer losing just one leg. Hudgie, Robbie, Andy and Aggie lost two legs.
Next week, Tuesday 7th April, is time to support your captain/vice captain in the Central-sponsored Captains Cup. Please note the player of the year voting sheets will be handed out at this competition.
