Appleby lawyer Alicia Cain has been formally admitted to the Manx Bar following a ceremony at the Isle of Man Courts of Justice.
Alicia, who is already qualified as a solicitor of England & Wales, joined Appleby’s Isle of Man office in September 2013. She sat and passed the Manx Bar exams last May and following the completion of a two-year Period of Articles, she was formally admitted to the Bar by Deemster Doyle, First Deemster and Clerk of the Rolls.
During the ceremony at the Courts of Justice, Alicia swore the Advocates’ Oath and the Oath of Allegiance in front of an audience which included her family and friends.
Alicia graduated from Durham University in 2007 with a degree in Modern European Languages. On completion of her professional exams in law, she trained at Baker & McKenzie LLP in London and qualified as a solicitor of England & Wales in 2011.
Specialising in trust and pensions law, Alicia has experience in a broad range of trust-related matters, contentious and non-contentious, including advising local and international clients on the establishment and restructuring of trusts and the use of trusts in corporate structures, and advising both trustees and employers on a range of issues affecting international and domestic occupational pension schemes.
She said: ‘I felt extremely proud during the ceremony. It has taken a lot of hard work and study, and I would like to thank my colleagues at Appleby for their support. Their advice and experience assisted me in reaching this point in my career, and now I am looking forward to continuing in my profession as a member of the Manx Bar and practicing advocate.’
